When one draws healing from the
Earth as does an herbalist, it is no longer possible to ignore her
rhythms, for it is the way we live, the way we think, and the means by
which we relate to our divinity, which some would call God, some would
call Goddess, some would call both, or to some, no name at all. For the
herbalist, power and understanding lie within the earth.
There is no time to play with spells, for
the study of magic is merely a tool and used only to gain wisdom, never
material things or control over another person.
It is the lesson of how the Universe moves. The wise practitioner would
not even use magic to heal someone who has made themselves sick, using
instead the herbs as a means to promote understanding within that
individual of the true cause, so they can themselves make change.
The word magick mystifies us and
spreads a cloak of mystery over the whole experience of
universal energies. To some people, in some ways, the word
magic has come to be understood as the use of energy in
ways which we do not understand. However, magic is
actually just the process of utilizing the forces of
energy found in all things. Because belief initiates the
force of energy, a disbelief in magic would, in theory,
create a void in which magic would not quite work. A
belief initiates willpower and willpower changes and
increases energies, therefore simply believing in magic
may actually create the power to utilize it.
